5.3 Remarks on the use of a certain group of verbs. (ข้อควรสังเกตเกีjยวกับกริยาบางกลุ่ม)
5.3.1 กริยาต่อไปนีrต้องตามด้วย Gerund เสมอ
enjoy, mind , consider , stop , avoid , appreciate , delay , keep , finish , risk ,deny ,
admit , miss , recall , remember , practice , dislike , detest , escape , give up , postpone ,
mention , recollect , quit , look forward to , can’t resist , can’t help.

(หมายเหตุ อังกฤษใช้ practice เป็น verb และ practice เป็น noun แต่ อเมริกันใช้
practice เป็นได้ทั\ง verb และ noun )
Example. 1) John has stopped working as an engineer in that company.

2) Would you mind lending me that fountain-pen?
3) They enjoy dancing and drinking.
4) We admit doing that.
5) Can you finish writing this story within half an hour?

6) I have delayed writing to him till today.
7) I gave up drinking and smoking two weeks ago.
8) You shouldn’t miss seeing that exciting film.

9) Let’s practice speaking English in this hour.
10) I couldn’t resist buying such a nice watch.
หมายเหตุ (1) ในบางครั\ง “remember” อาจจะตามด้วย Infinitive ก็ได้ แต่ในกรณี เช่นนั\น

“remember” จะมีความหมาย = “not to for get” เช่น
They remembered to bring my car back. = They didn’t forget to bring my cat back.
(2) ในบางครั\ง “stop” อาจจะตามด้วย Infinitive ก็ได้ แต่ในกรณี เช่นนั\น หมายความว่า
ประธานของประโยคนั\นได้ละ “สถานที1” ไว้ในฐานที1เข้าใจแล้ว เช่น

We stop to smoke. = We stop (here or there) to smoke.
5.3.2 กริยาต่อไปนีrอาจตามด้วย Gerund หรือ Infinitive ก็ได้
begin , start , hate , prefer , like , love , permit , agree , forget cease ,
neglect , intend , continue , allow , regret , remember , propose , mean ,
leave , advise

Example. 1) He likes eating Chinese food.
He likes to eat Chinese food.
2) It started raining as soon as we arrived at the station.

It started to rain as soon as we arrived at the station.
3) I prefer eating Thai food to Chinese food.
I prefer to eat Thai food to Chinese food.
4) I forgot bringing my camera with me.

I forgot to bring my camera with me.
5.3.3 Infinitive ทีjตามหลังกริยาต่อไปนีrไม่ต้องมี “to” นําหน้า
hear , see , fell , make , let , know , watch , bid , behold , observe ,
perceive , help , please , need not , dare not , notice.
